This companion is designed to be used alongside What We Carry, Volume Three. Each of the twelve stories has its own unit containing five elements: a Core Truth, a Memory Word, three Discussion Questions, a Reflective Writing Activity, and a Carry Forward prompt - a small, concrete practice to take into the week.
Volume Three addresses the relational stories - forgiveness, failure, integrity, and the people who stay. These stories turn outward. Where Volumes One and Two were largely about what a young person carries alone, Volume Three is about what we carry with other people, and what happens when the carrying gets shared, broken, or repaired.
The Discussion Questions are designed to open conversation, not close it. There are no correct answers. The Reflective Writing Activities are private by default - do not ask students or participants to share unless they choose to. The act of writing is the work. Sharing is optional.
The stories can be used in any order. For classroom use, we recommend one story per week. For coaching and counseling contexts, let the young person choose which story to begin with.
